Sir, How sad to see that our new Mayor of London has banned drinking alcohol on buses and Tubes. How quickly he abandoned his much trumpeted libertarian principles. Enter Nanny Boris!
Banning alcohol on buses and the Tube will not alleviate the problem of public drunkenness, because people do not as a rule undertake their intoxication on public transport.
Drunken yobs can be dealt with by existing legislation covering threatening behaviour, public disorder and being drunk and disorderly. It is worrying that our new mayor has made this simple error in his analysis.

yeh well why DID you elect him anyway ?(is cheam in london now ? ) paddick was obviously the best candidate but if you are going to elect a lord mayor based on perceived tv popularity rather than actual fitness for the job then expect a lot of half formulated, knee jerk reactive policies.

If you cannot smoke on public transport why should you be allowed to consume alcohol

I live in Canada at the moment, where drinking alcohol in public is banned. It's illogical because anything that it's okay to do indoors should also be okay to do outdoors, it criminalises picnicers drinking a bottle of bubbly, and anyway people generally get drunk in bars and at home.
