Sir, On Friday (Oct 17) there will be the second reading of the Union Flag Bill in the House of Commons. This important Bill seeks to affirm the Union Flag as our national flag and confirm its design and proportions. Contrary to popular belief our flag has never been truly given to the people as their national flag and it is high time this happened.
It is noticeable that even our elected MPs seem ashamed to declare their allegiance. Over Portcullis House in Westminster, where most MPs have their offices, there are two bare flag- poles — used only a few days a year — on which the Union Flag should be flying proudly every day, as would be the case in any other country. MPs represent their constituents but they also owe allegiance to the nation and should be proud to do so. Shame on them for not flying the flag. I very much hope they will all attend the second reading of the Bill and affirm our national flag loudly and clearly.

May we also have our European Union Flag fluttering proudly from ALL Untied Kingdom offices.

It is interesting that Labour are now interested in flag flying ten years after they sowed the seeds for the Union's destruction.
I want my national flag to be proudly flown from ALL English buildings. Please make sure it's the one without the superfluous blue trangles and diagonal red stripes.
Terry, Aylesbury, England
It is appalling that our elected representatives should fail to fly our national flag over government buildings and shame on them for not having price in our nation that the flagpoles over Portcullis House are bare. Question is, who decided that the Union Flag should not fly over this building?
