During the 1980s, when I led one of the UK’s first forensic accounting departments, we did not allow evidential reports to be submitted without first subjecting them to rigorous testing, either in-house or by our client’s lawyers. If the Crown Prosecution Service does not already have a duty to subject its own experts’ evidence to rigorous pre-testing, it should be given such a duty.

It is not the expert who needs to be accredited, it is the evidence.
