Sir, In their letter to Tony Blair, the 15 Labour MPs fail to identify any specific concerns about his leadership or current policies. Their only worry seems to be that he will damage their chances of being re-elected.

Sir, It is one thing to be in opposition while in government, quite another when out of power. Dissident MPs would do well to remember this.

Sir, The past 16 years have demonstrated to me what unpleasant individuals (all parties) we have elected to represent us in Parliament. With just a few exceptions, I would not welcome any of them as a colleague in my business life.
Currently, we have the unedifying sight of Tony Blair being hounded from office by a gaggle of recently elected, and largely unknown, MPs who almost certainly would not be in the House were it not for the changes in the Labour Party brought about by Blair.
However, I have not forgotten that in recent years the Conservatives have disposed of Thatcher, Major, Duncan Smith, Hague and Howard with the same behaviour currently being displayed by Labour’s assassins. Of course the Liberal Democrats disposed of Charles Kennedy in a savage manner.
Is it any wonder that so many people do not bother to vote?

Sir, Tony Blair is one of the best prime ministers that this country has had in recent decades — not just my opinion but that of most foreigners I speak to and work with in the Middle East, and previously in Afghanistan and the Balkans.
JOHN MERRITT

Sir, Tony Blair should see the term through, as we have never had such a dynamic, reforming, driven, dedicated man since Attlee. His zeal has shaken up every aspect of this country that had been left to its own devices for decades. Change means risks and making mistakes, but he must be unique in churning out policies and laws that are so responsive to popular consciousness.
Granted, Iraq will be a blot on his record, but we still need him with regard to domestic politics.

Sir, Those wishing to dethrone Tony Blair ought to consider that, as bad as his tenure has been, the prospect of Gordon Brown taking the reins is an even more dire prospect for the country.
Brown is no statesman. He has all the failings of Blair, but without the charisma.

Sir, I hope the United States Administration ponders its part in the troubles facing Tony Blair.
He has been America’s loyal and unstinting ally, and has received absolutely nothing in return.
GEORGE WEDD

Sir, Why does Mr Blair fret so about his “legacy”? We have new Labour, the Millennium Dome, the Third Way, Saddam Hussein’s elusive weapons of mass destruction, spin, intractable overseas wars, John Prescott, and supercasinos.
What more could we want?
