Can I link to Times Online from my blog or in a forum?
Of course you can link to Times Online. We're proud of our Technorati rank which shows we're one of the most influential sources of news and comment online. Tens of thousands of blogs link to our stories and columnists. If you link to an article which has comments enabled, feel free to leave a message and let other readers know you're talking about the story. However, because almost all the material on Times Online is copyright, there are some things to be careful of. It's unwise to copy and paste large blocks of text (i.e. more than 100 words) from Times Online onto your site, particularly because search engines make it very easy to detect copyright infringement.
Obviously, anything which suggests that your site is affiliated with or approved by Times Online, The Times or The Sunday Times would have to be arranged in advance with the News International Syndication Department. You shouldn't copy images, pictures or logos from Times Online onto your own site. We have to negotiate with photographers and agencies for the rights to use images online, and our agreements don't allow them to be used elsewhere. Click here for full details of the Terms of Service of Times Online and our Copyright notice.
How do I send a letter to the Editor of The Times?
Letters for the Editor of The Times can be sent to letters@thetimes.co.uk, faxed to 020 7782 5046 or posted to Letters to:
The Editor,
The Times,
1 Pennington Street,
London E98 1TA.
Please include your postal address and a daytime telephone number. The Times receives around 500 letters, faxes and emails each day, but only 14-18 are printed in the newspaper. Calm, brief letters stand a better chance of selection than long, intemperate ones.
I'm angry about a story; what can I do?
You can have your say in many ways. Click on Debate on our home page to see where you can post comments directly online. You can post comments on current debates below or on many of our opinion articles. You can also write a letter to the Editor of The Times or The Sunday Times and selected letters will appear online and in the newspapers; calm, brief letters stand a better chance of selection than long, intemperate ones.
Or you can write to Sally Baker, the Feedback Editor of The Times. She will be happy to answer your queries about The Times either directly or in her weekly column. If you are complaining about what you believe to be factual errors and the letters editor does not select your letter for publication, he will forward it to the office of the Editor or the Managing Editor, or to the Feedback Editor (you can e-mail her directly at feedback@thetimes.co.uk ). If the matter warrants correction, we may decide to correct the database and online versions of the story or, for more serious complaints, to publish a correction in the paper. Your final recourse is to the Press Complaints Commission or to the Advertising Standards Authority for advertisements - their websites give clear information about how to complain.
I really enjoyed a story: What can I do?
If you email Sally Baker, The Times’ Feedback Editor, she will be delighted to pass compliments along to the relevant people: feedback@thetimes.co.uk
Can I do work experience at The Times, The Sunday Times or Times Online?
Every week throughout the year we have at least three or four young people doing work experience at The Times and The Sunday Times. Placements are organised centrally and well in advance.
We usually offer a week of unpaid work experience and we do not pick up travel or accommodation costs. Our basic requirements for work experience candidates are that they are no younger than 20 or at least in their second year at university and that they have not been for a placement here before.
Demand is extremely high, and we can only accept a limited number of people. Some weeks are booked 18 months in advance. We mostly look for a good attitude, willingness to do anything and everything, curiosity, energy and ambition. We cannot guarantee hands-on journalistic experience; that depends on the individual’s drive and how busy the week may be.
Here’s how to apply. In each case, send a CV, a short covering letter and the weeks when you’re available to:
The Times: Louise Dawson: workexperience@thetimes.co.uk
or call 0207 782 514 5149
The Sunday Times: Kathleen Herron, Deputy Managing Editor: kathleen.herron@sunday-times.co.uk
How can I contact The Times Customer Services?
Please email custserv@thetimes.co.uk or call 020 7711 1523 (Mon-Fri – 9.30am – 5.30pm)
