Pub talk among petrolheads will invariably turn to the age-old question of what is the greatest fast car of all time. Well, now is your chance to cast your vote. This year, in an unprecedented decision, the organisers of the Revival have relaxed the rule that allows only pre-1966 cars into the festival. As part of an all-new attraction, visitors will be able to get up close to modern supercars as well as classic racers and vote on which they think is the best of all time.
The attraction, entitled the Earls Court Motor Show, which is sponsored by The Sunday Times, is a miniature version of the London exhibition of yesteryear and will feature many of the greatest cars produced from 1920 to the present day, with every decade between represented.
It will include about 25 of the fastest cars of their day — from a 100mph 1921 Bentley 3 Litre, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in 1924 and 1927, to today’s 253mph Bugatti Veyron. They will be joined by landmark cars such as the 155mph 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL and the 173mph 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, as well as the 197mph 1986 Porsche 959 and the 201mph Ferrari F40, the first production car to break the “double ton”, in 1987.
If off-the-clock top speeds leave you a little hot under the collar, fear not: the Earls Court show takes visitors on a further trip down motoring’s memory lane. Less exotic cars, of the type you would expect to find at a 1950-1960s motor show, will also be on display, from classics such as the Jaguar E-type to popular, more humble offerings such as the Ford Anglia.
