What’s different? A new car from a new company, that’s all. Breckland Technology is a Norfolk-based concern financed from Hong Kong and the Beira is a two-seat convertible powered by a 400bhp 6.2 litre V8 similar to that in the Vauxhall VXR8. The Beira uses the platform of the Pontiac Solstice roadster but has reclothed it to provide a look of its own. Breckland says it should hit 62mph in less than 6sec and has a top speed limited at 155mph

Why should I care? Breckland claims the Beira picks up where TVR and Noble left off, and with a hand-built body, light weight, huge power and roadster styling, it’s easy to see what it means. Breckland says a right-hand-drive version is under development

What’s different? The Peugeot 308 estate goes on sale with a choice of eight engines (five petrol, three diesel) with power outputs from 90-175bhp and four trim levels. The car has been lengthened and provides more interior and luggage space than its predecessor, the 307 SW

Why should I care? If you don’t need the seven seats increasingly offered by even mid-sized MPVs but instead fancy the simplicity of a conventional estate car with substantial load-carrying ability, this 308 SW may be worth a look. Certainly the 308 platform is Peugeot’s best effort for years so it should adapt to an estate car application without too much trouble
