Canada: home to mountains, wilderness, lumberjacks and world-class supercars. Well, okay, that last one wouldn’t spring to mind for most, but that could change if a small company in Quebec has its way.
Based near Montreal, HTT Technologies is putting the final touches to the Pléthore, an out-and-out supercar with performance to rival the best from Europe and the US.
Although the company hasn’t officially tested the car, it reckons sub-4sec to 60mph and a top speed “significantly in excess” of 200mph are on the cards. Its supercharged 6.2-litre V8 develops 750bhp and the body is carbon fibre, making the car an astonishingly light 1,150kg. To put that in perspective, it means it has around 250bhp more power than a Ferrari F430 but weighs about the same as a Mazda MX-5.
The Pléthore’s interior is inspired by the McLaren F1. The driver sits centrally, and all the switchgear for the windows and the stereo is on the ceiling. The scissor doors can be opened remotely.
HTT says it already has five orders for the Pléthore. None is from Europe, but the company has high hopes for the car here when it goes on sale next year at around £220,000.
Can it succeed? Probably not. For the same money, buyers could have a Lamborghini Murciélago, or even the new McLaren MP4-12C — supercars with history as well as histrionics. Then again, the combination of French flair with American muscle might surprise us all and put Canada on the supercar map.
