The old Zafira was the first mid-sized MPV to also offer seven seats, the rearmost disappearing neatly and cleverly into the floor rather than having to be taken out and stored in the shed. It rightly became the class bestseller and the new one simply takes the formula and improves upon it in all important areas. There’s more room, better quality and at least an attempt to make it less dull to drive. It’s no longer the cleverest MPV on the market, but it isn’t Jade Goody either.
Vauxhall Zafira: Petrol engines go up in 200cc increments from 1.6 to 2.2 litres but there’s only one diesel unit, a 1.9 litre, available. There is also the £21,995 Zafira VXR (pictured) with its 237bhp engine and 144mph top speed.

This is a great car in every respect. Solid, superb build quality, fun to drive, plus all the practical stuff. I always thought Vauxhall could never better the old model. How do they follow this one?
