For friendly managers, great work colleagues and a competitive benefits package, IT recruitment specialist Computer People hits the right buttons every time.
Staff say they feel fully involved and that there is a strong sense of family in the firm, both 83% positive scores, which place the company in the top 10 for these measures. Employees are proud to work here too (80%).
Founded in 1972 and one of the largest businesses in its field, Computer People covers all aspects of contract and permanent IT recruitment, including some of the top-tier UK organisations.
The company is constantly looking at ways to improve the working life of its staff. A flexible benefits scheme enables them to select rewards that suit their lifestyles. Choices include performance-related pay, free private healthcare for the whole family, childcare vouchers, subsidised gym, extra holidays, dental insurance, life assurance and even a concierge service.
People are offered flexible working hours if they have children under six. The firm also pays above the statutory for maternity and paternity leave. Sabbaticals are available to workers who have made a long-term commitment to the company.
Staff are happy with pay and benefits (74%) and give the firm a 69% rating for being paid fairly compared to people in similar companies, both top 20 scores. And for being paid fairly compared to others in their own company, the organisation gets a score of 74%, a result bettered by just three other firms.
Regular incentive programmes drive employee motivation. Top performers can win quarterly prizes, such as a long weekend in Barcelona, as well as an annual winners’ trip to destinations that have included Finland, Las Vegas, Mauritius, Dubai and Barbados.
Staff give colleagues an 81% positive score for going out of their way to help each other, 84% for caring for one another and 89% for colleagues being fun to work with, a score bettered by just three other businesses.
Employees give managers 84% and 82% respectively for talking openly and honestly and for sharing important information, and 73% and 77% respectively for motivating them to give their best and for helping them to fulfil their potential. All are top 10 rankings nationally.

I worked for Computer People as did more than a few of my close friends...For this reason none of us will ever work in recruitment again. This is an awful company to work for...If they are so great, why is their retention so high? Maybe forcing people to complete this survey is a high indicator...
