Leeds University Business School, based on the same campus as the main university, offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Its MBA students come from more than 20 countries; recent graduates include a White House liaison for the US General Services Administration; an Austrian consultant; and the deputy general manager of an Indian telecommunications company.
Vital statistics. Applicants for the 12-month course at Leeds need a minimum GMAT of 600 (including a score of at least 4.0 in the analytical writing assessment) and at least three years’ work experience. The programme, taught over three semesters, is divided into four sections: ten core modules, including business accounting and managerial economics; three options chosen from subjects such as knowledge management, managing and exploiting intellectual capital and electronic business; an executive skills programme, covering topics such as conceptual comptetence and interpersonal skills; and an MBA project. The 2007-08 course costs £16,500 for EU citizens.
Rankings. Leeds is ranked 40th in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Which MBA? guide 2006 and equal 93rd in ft.com’s global MBA rankings 2007.
Work experience. Students can use their MBA project to tackle a real-life corporate situation. Recent examples include an investigation of IT reengineering strategies within the NHS; a benchmarking exercise with First Direct bank; and a strategic analysis of a management training centre for NG Bailey.
Employment record. The average Leeds alumni salary is 78 per cent higher than it was before completing the MBA; 95 per cent of graduates are employed within three months of graduating.
Application deadline: June 30, 2008 for the 2008-09 course. There are five open days scheduled next year; see website for details.
