The Bard has provided inspiration for countless artists and this exhibition, at the delightful Dulwich Picture Gallery brings together more than 70 works depicting Shakespeare's characters and plays.

The exhibition centres upon the relationship between Shakespeare and artists during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and also examines theatrical productions during these centuries. Some paintings feature famous actors of the period such as Garrick, Kemble and Siddons, and others are the product of pure imagination. Some exhibits are visionary in tone, others are horrific, others still are romantic and all are unforgettable.
