The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust has announced its fellowships for 2007 and once again people from all walks of life and of all ages have been offered the opportunity to travel the world in pursuit of knowledge about their professions or interests.
Set up with public donations after the death of the former Prime Minister in 1965, the trust has given grants to thousands of men and women, who have thus been able to gain a better understanding of the lives and cultures of people overseas.
The trust aims to support those who are unlikely to gain funding elsewhere, and formal education or professional qualifications are not neccessarily required.
Fellows receive a grant, usually for a stay of four to eight weeks, covering living and travel expenses. On their return, each submits a report on his or her project and expected to disseminate the findings as widely as possible.
Contact the trust for further information on 020-7584 9315 or visit www.wcmt.org.uk

— In 1992 Julie Stokes, a principal child psychologist from Gloucestershire, was awarded a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship to travel to the US and Canada to study stress management in bereaved children. On her return the “Greatest Briton” quickly metamorphosed into a teddy bear called Winston and his wish was that every bereaved child would get the support they need. Today Winston's Wish has helped many thousands of children to hold on to their memories, their hopes and their identities. For her outstanding contribution to child welfare, Stokes was recently appointed OBE; of course, Winston was there at her investiture
