The President of the Republic of Ghana and Mrs Kufuor today commenced a State Visit in London to The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex welcomed The President and Mrs Kufuor on behalf of The Queen at the Landmark Hotel, 222 Marylebone Road, London NW1.
The President of the Republic of Ghana and Mrs Kufuor, accompanied by The Earl and Countess of Wessex, drove to Horse Guards and were met by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
The President of the Republic of Ghana and Mrs Kufuor, accompanied by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh with The Earl and Countess of Wessex, drove in a Carriage Procession to Buckingham Palace with a Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry.
Gun Salutes were fired in Green Park by The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, and at the Tower of London by the Honourable Artillery Company.
Guards of Honour were provided at Horse Guards by the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards and at Buckingham Palace by No. 7 Company Coldstream Guards.
Her Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, The Queen’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard and a Detachment of Household Cavalry were on duty.
The Queen presented The President of the Republic of Ghana with the Insignia of an Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath.
The President and Mrs Kufuor this afternoon drove to Westminster Abbey where His Excellency laid a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.
The President of the Republic of Ghana and Mrs Kufuor afterwards visited the British Museum, were received by The Duke of Gloucester, Royal Patron, and The Duchess of Gloucester, the Director (Mr Neil MacGregor) and the Mayor of the London Borough of Camden (Coun-cillor Jill Fraser) and viewed the “Fabric of a Nation” Exhibition and the Sainsbury Africa Gallery.
The Rt Hon David Cameron MP (Leader of the Opposition) later called upon The President of the Republic of Ghana at Buckingham Palace.
The Rt Hon Sir Menzies Campbell MP (Leader of the Liberal Democrats) afterwards called upon His Excellency.
His Excellency the Rt Hon Donald McKinnon (Commonwealth Secretary General) subsequently called upon The President.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh gave a State Banquet this evening in honour of The President of the Republic of Ghana and Mrs Kufuor at which The Prince of Wales, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, The Princess Royal and Rear Admiral Timothy Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and The Duke of Kent were present.
