Arthur Fish, from Wellingborough, asks: “Is it acceptable to wear my pullover to work now that the nights are drawing in?”
Depends on the office, your colleagues and the state and pattern of your pullover. Almost anything goes these days. Not many of us are wearing neckties these days. Jeeves would frown. If your office is full of Jeeveses, try a string vest. Or, if desperate, your pullover under your shirt. PH
Ron Collins, Badminton: “Certainly, with the proviso that it is accessorised with full-length trousers and suitable shoes.”
Bill Collett, Penryn: “However pernickety your employer/clients, you can wear whatever you like to and from work. Your employers may be in breach of workplace legislation if you feel cold at work. Otherwise, wear a V-neck to show your crisp collar and smart tie — or invest in a good waistcoat.”
James Morgan, Mayfair: “A gentleman wears a pullover only at weekends, with informal dress. It is absurd to wear a pullover with a City suit. Be British. Pull your socks up. Wear an overcoat and invisible long johns if you are that cold.”
