Field Marshal Sir John Stanier
The Duke of Edinburgh was represented by Lord Bramall, KG, MC, the Prince of Wales by the Lord Inge, KG, and Prince Michael of Kent by Colonel Thomas Hall at a thanksgiving service for the life of Field Marshal Sir John Stanier, GCB, DL, held yesterday at the Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks. Field Marshal the Duke of Kent also attended.
The Rev Paul Wright, chaplain, Household Division, officiated. The Rev Peter Hewlett-Smith read the Collects.
The Rev Dick Whittington, chaplain, Royal Hospital Chelsea, led the prayers.
Mr Simon Buckmaster, son-in-law, read the lesson. Brigadier George Powell read Crossing the Bar by Alfred Lord Tennyson. General Lord Walker of Aldringham, GCB, and Brigadier Melville Jameson gave addresses.
