The singer Stevie Wonder whose best known hits include Superstition and I Just Called To Say I Love You is a supporter of Barack Obama and has appeared at several of his rallies. He is touring in America in June and July, but is coming to London for Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday party concert in Hyde Park on June 27. Blind since infancy after receiving an excess of oxygen in an incubator after his premature birth, he is currently working on a new album called The Gospel According to Lula. His song Happy Birthday, recorded in 1980, was part of a campaign to make Martin Luther King’s birthday a national holiday in the US, a plan which Ronald Reagan approved in 1983. He has seven children from various relationships and shares a birthday with his youngest son who is 3 today. Stevie Wonder is 58 today. RGT
