The Lord Mayor of Westminster attended a service to commemorate the life of Florence Nightingale, held on Wednesday, May 14, in Westminster Abbey. The Very Rev Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster, officiated and led the bidding prayer, assisted by the Rev Graeme Napier, minor canon of Westminster.
Mr David Hart, chairman, Nurse Aid, Edith Cavell Fund for Nurses and Professor Shona Brown, scholar and trustee of the Florence Nightingale Foundation, read the lessons.
The Rev Dominic Fenton, lead chaplain, North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust, and priest vicar, Westminster Abbey, gave the address.
During the service the British Commonwealth Nurses’ Roll of Honour was borne by Corporal Kirsty Whitelock, QARANC, and escorted by the three matrons-in-chief of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. The Lamp was carried by Ms Comfort Momoh and escorted by University of Wales student nurses from the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education, Wrexham.
