The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh this morning arrived at Hornbeam Park Station, Harrogate, and were received by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire (the Lord Crathorne).
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness drove to the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, to visit the One Hundred and Fiftieth Great Yorkshire Show and were received by the President of the North Yorkshire Agricultural Society (Mr. Christopher Hall), Mr. William Cowling (Honorary Show Director) and the Mayor of Harrogate (Councillor John Fox).
The Queen toured the Show, viewing displays and competitions and meeting breeders and exhibitors, and unveiled a plaque to mark the start of construction of the Regional Agricultural Centre.
The Duke of Edinburgh toured displays of renewable energy sources and agricultural machinery and equipment.
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were entertained to Luncheon in the President’s Pavilion by the Honorary Show Director.
This afternoon The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh viewed the champion cattle parade.
By command of The Queen, Sir Anthony Figgis (Marshal of the Diplomatic Corps) called upon His Excellency Mr. Edwin Pollard at 1 Great Russell Street, London WC1, this morning in order to bid farewell to His Excellency upon relinquishing his appointment as High Commissioner for Barbados in London.
