A service in memory of Mr Maurice Cowling, was held on Saturday at the University Church of St Mary the Great, Cambridge.
The Rev Dr J. B. Quash, Dean of Peterhouse, officiated, assisted by the Rev Dr Edward Norman, Emeritus Fellow of Peterhouse, who read prayers.
Lord Wilson of Tillyorn, KT Master of Peterhouse, read the lesson and Mr Richard Fisher, of the Cambridge University Press, read from Cardinal Newman’s The Idea of a University.
Mr Michael Portillo, Sir Peregrine Worsthorne, and Professor Michael Bentley gave addresses.

Mr Jack Tripp
A service of thanksgiving to celebrate the life of the pantomime dame Jack Tripp was held on Friday at St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden.
The Rev Katharine Rumens bade welcome and the Rev Guy Bennett, former chaplain of the London Palladium, led the prayers. Mr Roy Hudd, Ms Joan Savage, Mr Keith Baron, Ms Janet Brown, Mr Bill Pertwee, Ms Judi Spiers, Miss Anita Harris and Mr Jonathan Cecil paid tribute.
Mr Simon Gutteridge played the organ during the service.
