A service of thanksgiving for the lives of Sir Alexander Glen, President of the British Air Line Pilots’ Association, 1982-1994, and Lady Glen was held yesterday at St Paul’s, Knightsbridge. The Rev Alan Gyle officiated.
Miss Alexi Cory-Smith, great niece, read excerpts from Young Men in the Arctic by Sir Alexander, and Mrs Leonie Thorogood, daughter-in-law, read a passage from a sermon given by Lord Ballantrae, Chancellor of St Andrews University, to students in 1980. Mr Christopher James gave an address. Among others present were:

Mr Hubert Gregg
A service to celebrate the life of Mr Hubert Gregg, broadcaster, actor and composer, was held yesterday at St. Paul’s, Covent Garden, London, WC2. The Rev Mark Oakley officiated.
Mr David Jacobs read from Hubert’s works, Mr Geoffrey Palmer from Hampton Court Maze from Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome, Mr Richard Pasco read Hamlet’s Advice to the Players by William Shakespeare, and Mr Robert Gregg, son, read a Shakespeare sonnet.
Mr Paul Gane introduced a medley of Hubert’s songs including I’m going to get lit up when the lights go up in London, My Mother’s ambitious for me and My heart belongs to London sung by Miss Louise Gold and Mr Robert Meadmore accompanied by Mr Gordon Langford, piano, Miss Dittany Stirling, viola, played a movement from Bach. Mr Shaughan Seymour paid tribute.
Before the service recordings of some of Hubert’s compositions were played including the voices of Jack Buchanan, Mr Leslie Phillips and Miss Brigitte Bardot and after the service the congregation sang his best known composition Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner. Among others present were:
