I want to do Business Managment but i'm only doing 3hrs maths and i am taking my EB in '09. I am aiming for +-78%.

Laura, Brussels, Belgium
Mariana, Oxford, has no idea about the Open University. I myself am a mature student currently undertaking a degree at university which has an open policy similar to that of the Open university. It is not easy. If you do not attend lectures or dedicate yourself to research you will fail. Education.
Ricky, London,
It seems a little silly that the same universities are best both for men and women.
Surely it would be more sensible to rate them by proportion of male:female rather than raw numbers.
Adam, Oxford,
In response to the question on good Fashion Universities...obvious ones are Central St. Martins and London College of Fashion. Brighton University also seems to have produced a lot of well known fashion designers as well...some other ones which I believe to be good [as I have friends who study there + they place a lot of emphasis on hiring teachers who are well connected within the industry] are Istituto Marangoni (who have campuses in London, Paris and Milan) and Parsons: The New School For Design (who have campuses in Paris and New York).
ZJ, London,
It's rubbish that the Open University is the best in the world or even in this country. All sorts of people sign up for its courses and the tutors are pressurized into passing them regardless of their actual standard. If they don't pass , they can give malicious feedback - and just not sign up for another course! The OU motto is "pleasing the customer". It's all about money, so standards have to be sacrificed. That is not true education.
The reason people don't get A-levels is not that they haven't been to a private school, it's because they are too lazy to master basic literacy, to read or to follow a disciplined course of study.
Mariana, Oxford, England
The Open University is the best university in THE WORLD!
For every 6 A-Level private school yuppie, there is about 10,000 geniuses in the UK and 100,000,000 geniuses in Eastern Europe, India, China etc who could match them exam for exam and never got the chance. It's all about opportunity.
Finally friends, American sycophants, private school morons, and state school paupers in debt remember Zen wisdom:
A master received a university professor who came to inquire about wisdom, philosophy and the life of contemplation.
The master served tea. He poured his visitor's cup full, and then kept pouring.
The professor watched the overflowing cup until he no longer could restrain himself. "It's full. No more will go in!".
"Like this cup," the master said, "your are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you anything unless you first empty your cup?".
It's not what you know, it's who you know, and if you don't know "who" then you better know "you" and "what".
Winston Fahrenheit, Southampton, England
The best university education is the one with the least debt at the end of it.
Rick, Ham,
The very best university is the University of Life.

The Courtauld Institue is reputably THE place to read History of Art - on a par with Cambridge; and yet neither the Institute nor the subject appear in the Guide. Please explain.

MK Chui, Manchester, England

Thet Naing Tun, yangon, Myanmar

Vinnie, London,
I like Universities.
Sam, Norwich, Norfolk
what are the top fashion universities?
aky, cambridge, Uk
I am unfamiliar with the ranking system and there seems to be no explanation given on how these selections were made. Moreover I would like to know what "Top for Male Students" and "Top for Ethinic Minorities" implies.
Tonya, Ottawa, Canada
The information is not conflicting, because the scores are not calculated in the same way. Most of these values are absolute, whereas the full league table gives scores relative to the number of students, and possibly other factors. Thus Manchester spends more on facilities than most other universities, purely because it is bigger.
Rufus T. Firefly, Adis Ababa, Abyssinia
The information on these pages is quite conflicting. For example, the above tables rank oxford, cambridge, manchester and nottingham as the top four for spending on 'facilities'. However, the full league table ranks the expenditure on 'academic services and student and staff facilities' as: 1. Imperial College 2. Oxford 3. Cambridge 4. Bedfordshire. A look at the top tens produces further discrepancies. The above table is for 'first time full degree students' while the full table is for 'total number of full time students' but despite this there still appears to be major inconsistencies with the presetation of info. The diference between 'facilities' and 'academic services and facilities'. The point is that statistics can be deployed in vary misleading ways. If this is true of one category in the full table, then surely there are many other such interpretations of infomation, misleading future students.
Andrew, Edinburgh,
I'd be interested to have an explanation of how the value of research is calculated. It appears a little confusing. In the Accounting & Finance subject tables for example Exeter is placed in 22nd place and yet seemingly has stronger scores than 21st and 20th place. Is a 5D research assessment considered to be weaker than a 4A or 4B?
J. Anderson, London,
In addition to having omitted most of the Biomedical subjects from your subject listings, many subjects within the Humanities such as Archaeology, Art History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Theology are also missing, when they used to be included. Also missing are Architecture, Physiotherapy and Zoology. Why are these no longer included?
Rebecca, Nottingham, UK
While there's a lot of silliness with league tables, these are patently silly. By using the number, your university with most âxâ is going to be populated mainly by the biggest universities â ie those over 30000 students. So Leeds, and the two bigger Manchester Universities have most men and women.
Proportions can be much more telling â students would really like to know whether University A has 75% or 80% women, or 75% or 80% men.
Mike, Headington, UK
Could you please let me know how Biomedical subjects such as Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Biomedical Science are catagorised as these do not appear in your 32 subject listing.
