You should be studying, but it’s not your fault when you look at your ibook’s screen and see that your fingers have roved across the keyboard of their own accord and are spelling out w-w-w.-f-a-c-e-b-o-o…oops.
Procrastination can be addictive in revision circumstances, and if you are going to spend most of your “study time” in the library chatting online, MySpacing and flirting with your study buddy, why not be honest - add up all the time you spend faffing-about and surely it’s equivalent to an evening out on the lash. Of course, we’re not condoning it if you decide to swap chemistry revision for the barmaid’s course in mixology, or bin your anatomy textbook in favour of studying the bodies on the dancefloor. You'd be much better off staying in that library and getting those marks that will help you on the road to your career and future.
For those enviable ones who have got through the hurdle of exams, however, there are a host of fun things on this weekend in which you can revel in post-course bliss.
To keep with the academic theme, start your evening off with some school. The Forum in London's Kentish Town hosts a school disco themed party on Saturdays. It’s just like your schooldays only this time with less spots and in this steamy club the heavy-petting isn’t relegated to just the loo. Get out your uniform and dance (awkwardly, holding your partner at arms-length – remember this is supposed to be sixth-form after all) to retro disco, old skool hip-hop and all the 80’s tracks many clubs are too achingly cool to play.
If you are school-aged, or lucky enough to look it, Screem at Matisse in Haverfordwest is West Wales’ most massive under 18s party. There is no booze and no smoking, but they do give away glo-sticks, hats and other things that are momentarily diverting enough to make up for the lack of intoxicants. It’s on Fridays and only goes from 18:00 to 22:00, leaving plenty of time to swig White Lightning in the car park and be sick all over your shoes, as is apparently de rigueur for the demographic.
And how can you be expected to revise when you’ve got to spend next weekend queuing at not one but two ranks of porta-loos when you jet between Bristol and Nottingham for the Dot-to-Dot Festival that takes place over two days in both cities? In Bristol on the first day of the weekend, you can swat up on your Finnish architecture by getting an earful of quirky Australian octet Architecture in Helsinki (who actually have not a thing to say about Finland's flying buttresses or Doric columns). Next day when mum rings to ask what you’ve been doing, tell her you’re focused on indie rockers Good Books, who play the festival's next day instalment in Nottingham.
