Anyone who has seen the sun set across Cardigan Bay from the comfort of their university bedroom will agree that this must be one of the more scenic places to spend three or four years. It’s no surprise that Aber recorded some of the highest levels of student satisfaction in the first three national student surveys, top again in Wales this year.
Everything is set up to help students succeed. Accommodation is cheap and plentiful with 3,600 places in university-owned rooms.
Aber has a bursary package aimed at benefiting the many, not the few. Wales-domiciled students can get up to £13,035 in nonrepayable assistance over the course of a degree. For those from outside Wales, it goes to £7,500.
Newly independent of the University of Wales, the opening this month of the £10m centre for visualisation is the sort of bold landmark development that sets out Aber’s stall for the future. See3D, as it will be called, features a domed 3D reality theatre, interactive projection and high-powered computing equipment and work stations for a personal virtual reality experience. It will be an invaluable tool for students of the suite of computer science degrees offered here.
Lower than average first job salaries (£16,800 per annum) and relatively low numbers in graduate-level employment (47%) must be balanced against something you cannot put a price on: quality of (university) life.

As Welshman I had Aber shoved in my face. I took the sensible decsion to avoid it like the plague and went to the much more highly rated UCL and have never regretted it.
Aber is filled to bursting point with Welsh Nationalists, many of whom refuse to converse in English. Childish and insular.
