This is university education with a difference. Students here don’t so much experience the cultural life of London, they are part of it. Such is the contribution made by the six colleges that make up the University of the Arts London – home to a little under 20,000 students, half of them full-time undergraduates. All follow a range of courses that have an artistic bent but which straddle many different professions from art to journalism, from acting to sculpture, from book arts design to active sportswear.
The colleges are situated across the capital on no fewer than 17 sites. They are: Camberwell College of Arts, Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design, Chelsea College of Art and Design, the London College of Communication, the London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Art, the latter only added to the university’s stable of artistic excellence in 2006. The extra courses (in art and design and history of art) rated excellent for teaching quality brought in by Wimbledon help lift the teaching excellence ratings although, bizarrely, student satisfaction levels put the university at the bottom of the heap.
University of the Arts London has almost cornered the market in the creative industries, its graduates occupying positions of influence and importance. It can count among its illustrious alumni everyone from Jimmy Choo and fashion entrepreneur Harold Tillman to eight of the nine sculptors at Madame Tussauds.
The institution works hard to ease the financial burden on students; the 50% who are in receipt of a state maintenance grant get a further £1,000 bursary on top from the university.

I wouldn't advise anyone to do the Fashion Design and Pattern Cutting Foundation Degree as it doesn't offer either work experience or automatic progression to the third year for a BA even if you have quite a good pass, unlike other colleges with this course. It is very difficult to get employment.
