Newton Park, Bath Spa’s stunning main campus, sets it apart from other universities. Leased from the Duchy of Cornwall, it combines historic buildings, Capability Brown-designed grounds, farmland, woods and a lake. Were it not for modern additions such as the Michael Tippett Centre – a concert hall – aspiring undergraduates would be forgiven for thinking they were on a field trip to a National Trust site. But this is a thoroughly modern institution, having gained university status just two years ago.
There is an impressive range of courses. New this year are a number of creative arts foundation degrees in subjects including graphic design and music production, while uniquely students enrolling in 2008 can opt to study physical theatre and circus skills. Links with industry are to be boosted this September thanks to the school of music and performing arts’ launch of Bath Spa Live – a professional arts infrastructure offering practical experience to arts management students. Green issues are also prominent, fittingly for a university whose teaching of environmental studies is rated excellent and given its rural and heritage settings.
Almost half of last year’s admissions received a bursary and just over 10% gained scholarships – awarded to undergraduates studying certain science and environment courses.

Open days October 20; October 26 (School of Music and Performing Arts only); October 27.
