Atrium, the university’s new campus in Cardiff city centre, opens its doors to undergraduates this month. Home to the Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries, the £35m development houses the teaching of more than 40 vocational courses that include animation, film, television and radio, fashion, design, drama, music technology, and culture and society.
Students will benefit from Atrium’s central location, close to Cardiff’s hub of fast-growing creative industries, while the modish courses seem set to further entrench the city’s increasingly hip image.
Glamorgan, whose Treforest campus is 20 minutes outside Cardiff, has historically offered a quieter and cheaper alternative to the Welsh capital’s inner-city universities, but with its new urban outpost, students can truly get the best of both worlds.
The teaching of nursing has also received a boost, thanks to the Aneurin Bevan building – an addition to the school of care sciences. Named after the Welshman and Labour politician credited as the architect of the NHS, it houses computer labs, teaching space and a restaurant. Undergraduates now have some of the leading clinical practice suites in the UK in which to cut their teeth, such as high-tech mannequins which simulate human behaviour, giving budding nurses vital experience before they are let loose on the real thing in hospitals.
The university has a generous scholarship scheme: all undergraduates regardless of means who have achieved 300 or more Ucas points prior to starting a full-time undergraduate degree get £1,000 each year for three years of study.

Open days October 27; November 17.
