The de Havilland campus, opened in 2003, gave Hertfordshire a new lease of life, boosting applications and providing first-class academic and sporting facilities. The Hatfield-based institution is a particularly large provider of healthcare graduates and the establishment of BioPark Hertfordshire in nearby Welwyn Garden City, with the help of an £8m grant from the regional development agency, will draw bioscience and healthcare businesses to the area. The aim is to create a world-class research and development centre.
There are new courses in 3D games art, special effects, character creation and technical effects, media practices and management, digital film and TV production (fiction and nonfiction), and music and entertainment industry management. There are also additions to the school of aeronautical, automotive and design engineering portfolio, with three degrees offered for the first time in airport operations and aviation logistics, aerospace technology with management, and aerospace technology with pilot studies. The latter includes flying lessons.
The completion of the de Havilland campus has consolidated university activities in Hatfield, with just the law department based in nearby St Albans.

Open days October 13 and 14; March 16, 2008.
