Soas is a jewel in the crown of higher education the world over. The school has forged a reputation in its specialist area that is second to none and applications continue their upward trend this year as it holds its position on the fringes of our top 20.
There are more than 300 degrees to pick from, mainly joint honours options giving students a breadth of knowledge within their specialised chosen field. For example, you can study Hindi in conjunction with development studies, music, history or social anthropology, to name just four of 13 possible combinations. This trend is repeated through the school’s extensive languages portfolio, which includes Persian, Turkish, Sanskrit, Vietnamese and Georgian.
All languages are taught ab initio; no prior knowledge is required, which is just as well as you will not find many of them offered in sixth forms up and down the country.
State-of-the-art language laboratories have just been completed as part of a centre for excellence in teaching and learning covering languages of the wider world.
The Bloomsbury campus places students at the heart of the capital. The main Vernon Square residential site, a 20-minute walk off Pentonville Road, has had plans approved to house an extra 100 students.
With about a third of them recruited from overseas, drawn by its outstanding name, education here feels every bit as cosmopolitan as life in the capital itself.

Open days October 17; February 6, 2008; April 16.
