Oxford Brookes is once again the leading modern university in our league table. Having achieved this seven times in our 10 years of publication, this is no fluke. Its success is founded on strong teaching; no other modern university and few older universities can rival the 24 subjects rated excellent for teaching quality.
Its location and near neighbour are huge draws, particularly to privately educated school-leavers who account for 29% of recruits, more than double the expected level. Oxford Brookes works hard to diversify its intake, evidenced by more than a third entering from the lower social classes.
Students are based on one of three campuses. Headington is closest to the city centre and the biggest. Wheatley, on the outskirts of the city, is home to the business and technology schools. The third site is Harcourt Hill, two miles from the city centre, which houses the teacher trainees.
The university offers a wide range of combined honours courses, alongside its 80 single honours options. Degrees admitting their first intake this month include osteopathy, film studies, information technology management for business, and a BSc in exercise, nutrition and health. Graduates’ starting salaries are £900 higher than the average (at £19,400 per annum) and more than two-thirds go into graduate-level jobs.

Open days October 13.
