The four colleges that make up this new university located on the edge of Richmond Park in London have long and distinct traditions. Although Roehampton only took university title in 2004, the first of its four colleges, Whitelands, was founded in 1841. This Church of England college is joined by Southlands (1872, Methodist), Digby Stuart (1874, Catholic) and Froebel (1892, humanist). Today, all faiths and none are admitted and there has been another healthy rise in applications.
Roehampton has one of the strongest research profiles among modern universities and it is seeking to build on that with the establishment of a Child Wellbeing Institute, drawing on its research in the area. It has also made several appointments in the creative arts and psychology. The parkland campus has a £6m building to house Crucible, its centre of education in human rights, social justice and citizenship.
In a far-reaching scholarship scheme, awards of £1,000 per year are given to all students winning places with ABB at A-level or equivalent and a total of 166 were handed out last year. Roehampton also offers scholarships to overseas students.

Open days October 10, November 17.
