There was nothing to be frightened of, after all. Warwick students took part in the national student survey for the first time this year after two refusals and promptly returned a solid satisfaction score of 73.8%. There was never any doubt that they would, as this is one of the finest universities in the country, a reputation built in an astonishingly short time. Founded in 1965, Warwick has achieved in 42 years what some universities will not achieve in 500.
A worldwide profile helps recruit a quarter of Warwick students from abroad, their full fees representing a huge chunk of income and pushing competition to about nine applications per place. Many achieve straight As at A-level and three-quarters go on to gain either a first (20%) or 2:1 (56%).
Life revolves around Warwick’s 500-acre campus on the edge of Coventry. The arts centre is one of the biggest outside London and excellent sporting facilities include a climbing wall, pool and 400m running track.
A £12.5m digital laboratory, ready next summer, will allow engineers from the university’s manufacturing group and medical school researchers, alongside other staff, to collaborate in research to enhance medical diagnosis.
Warwick’s research record is bettered only by Oxford and Cambridge among multifaculty universities. Three out of four students attain graduate-level jobs and, with starting salaries above £21,500, are among the best paid. For all its reputation for academic excellence, Warwick works hard to recruit from a range of backgrounds. Its unique 2+2 degree scheme is open to those without formal qualifications.
