With fewer than 4,000 full-time undergraduates, Worcester is a small university thinking big. Detailed plans have been put forward for a second, £120m campus in this scenic riverside city, home to the only university in Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Business has been earmarked as a suitable case for expansion within Worcester’s heavily vocational portfolio of courses and business, management, leadership, marketing, economics, innovation and advertising are now offered. The university, created in 2005, has a strong tradition in teacher training and nursing, accounting for a large majority of women students.
With sport arguably the third subject for which Worcester is best known, it can boast a 100% record for teaching excellence across its core subjects in assessments carried out by the Quality Assurance Agency. New off-campus sports facilities will be ready next year, as the university seeks to build on its intervarsity record where it punches well above its weight. On the academic side of sport, its 3D motion analysis research and rehabilitation centre is unique in Europe.
A combination of a huge programme of courses from which to choose plus its elevation to university status has helped boost applications by more than 35% this year.
Worcester effectively offers a £500 discount on fees to all, while those in receipt of any level of state grant will qualify for a £700 bursary.

Open days October 6, 24.
