Life tastes good at Aberystwyth University. Forget student staples such as Pot Noodle and beans on toast — award-winning locally sourced food is served up at TaMed Da (Welsh for “something good”), the university’s restaurant which has recently benefited from a £300,000 investment.
But it can’t be the cuisine alone which attracts students from more than 90 countries to the lively town and the unspoilt scenery of Cardigan Bay on the west coast of Wales.
Aberystwyth was founded in 1872. Formerly part of the University of Wales, it became independent in 2007, but still awards UW degrees.
The courses on offer range from the traditional to the innovative, and aim to be flexible, with a wide choice of joint honours courses. New this year are childhood studies, French with mathematics, law and criminology and scenography and theatre design. Psychology as a single or joint honours degree is another recent addition.
