Bath is a regular in our elite top 10. One of the 1960s generation of universities, it has forged an outstanding reputation in science — its largest faculty — engineering and sport. It is also hugely popular in the studies of head teachers the length of Britain, confirmed by its consistently high ranking in our unique survey of heads from the leading academic schools.
This year it is ranked seventh in the UK by heads, significantly above its overall rating of 11th. Reasons for its popularity are immediately apparent. Graduate unemployment levels are low and few students drop out — Bath’s non-completion rate of 5.5% is well below the anticipated level of 6.8%. The employability of Bath students is due in no small part to the fact that nearly 60% of undergraduates spend one year on an industrial or business placement.
The concrete Claverton Down campus structures betray Bath’s brutalist origins, but much recent development is diluting this. The latest will provide a new student centre.
The arts and music tradition at Bath has always been strong and its sporting pedigree is second only to Loughborough in Britain. Uniquely, facilities — which are extensive and of exceptional quality — are free to use, with the sole exception of the fitness suite in the sports training village.
