Low-participation areas 8.6% Sand, sea and study set Bournemouth students up for a sunny future, judging by the most recent employment figures. About 77% of leavers gain graduate-level jobs, putting the university among the top 30 institutions in the UK and suggesting that the vocational emphasis of the courses — such as those in Bournemouth’s excellent media school — is pushing its graduates up employers’ wish lists.
The university’s education enhancement strategy sets out steps to boost the student experience in future, including improving assessment and feedback, supporting them in finding employment, increasing the role of technology in learning and offering a wider choice of courses. From this month, undergraduates can study for honours degrees in archeology and anthropology, photography, social care management, and film production and cinematography.
The university has a wide choice of foundation degrees, which can be topped up to full honours degrees with further study, and adds retail horticulture management, electrical technology and sustainable graphics and packaging to the list this month.
Teaching is rated excellent in a range of subjects from archeology to hospitality, leisure, recreation, sport and tourism and nursing.
Accommodation for 150 students has recently been added to the Okeford House development, and later in the year a further 400 people will move into the Lansdowne campus.
A bursary of £319 is paid to students with a household income of £25,000 or below. Those based at one of the university’s partner institutions may qualify for an award of £500, which isn’t mean-tested. There is also an unlimited number of scholarships worth £1,000 in return for straight As at A-level or equivalent.
