Two miles from Norwich, set in more than 300 acres of parkland, lies the award-winning architecture, multi-million-pound facilities and diverse student body of the University of East Anglia.
Students, who come from more than 100 countries, are among the happiest, according to the national student satisfaction survey, this year ranking their university 12th in the UK.
Students taking the new degree in physical education and sport will be among the first to benefit from the £3.8m extension to the university’s sports park, making it Britain’s largest indoor sports centre. It includes a new sports hall and teaching rooms, as well as a 50m pool, a climbing wall and a human performance laboratory.
Sport and art draw the local community onto campus; locals accounting for 85% of the sports centre’s use, and there are also 40,000 visits a year from members of the public to the university’s Sainsbury Centre for visual arts. The striking building, designed by Lord Foster, houses a public art museum as well as the school of world art studies and museology.
Academic East, a development which includes a 300-seat lecture theatre, seminar rooms and a space for students to work on projects together, is due to open this month.
The scholarship scheme rewards all those getting AAA at A-level with £500 and the vice-chancellor gives a further eight awards of £4,000 for the strongest applications overall.
