If an unrivalled graduate employment record is what you are looking for, the University of Surrey is just the job.
Surrey has the lowest graduate unemployment rate of any university in England. More than half of students get hands-on experience while studying, and many find a graduate job with these firms.
Entrepreneurs thrive at the university, which owns Surrey Research Park. The Surrey Technology Centre is based on the 70-acre park, and provides incubation facilities for start-up projects.
Testament to the university’s success with fledgling businesses, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), which began as a spin-off company, was sold to Europe’s leading space company, EADS Astrium, in January.
Space technology and planetary exploration and aerospace engineering courses ensure SSTL’s legacy lives on at the university. A researcher at the university was selected as an astronaut by the European Space Agency earlier this year. Physics and astronomy is one of the nine subjects in which Surrey’s teaching is rated excellent.
New subjects include a BA in theatre studies. This coincides with the Guildford School of Acting becoming part of the university, and relocating to the main campus.
Next year a multi-million-pound sports park will open at Surrey, which will house a 50m swimming pool, climbing wall, health and fitness centre and treatment rooms.
Bursaries range from £515 for students with a family income between £30,001 and £35,000, to £2,050 for an income lower than £10,000.
