London Fashion Week has begun and judging by the sponsors – Lavazza, Red Bull, Moet and Chandon, and Chambord, a black raspberry liqueur from France - the fashion crowd will be buzzing.
For those who indulge in more than Evian and cigarettes, after-show party venues are split between West End restaurants and trendy East End locales.
Perennial favs in W1 include the Metropolitan (book a table ) which hosts tonight's Fashion Candy Party, where guests can indulge in edible jewellery and Patchi chocolates, and Harry's Bar, a members-only upmarket Italian restaurant in Mayfair, where Jemima Khan hosted a soiree for her new Azzaro Spring fashion launch last night.
Down-at-heel Eastern promise is found at the likes of Bistrotheque (imbibe a glass of Amber, created by in-house mixologist Vilius Kadunas) and Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen, as well as every Times journalist's favourite lunchtime rendez-vous, Wapping Food, a modern European restaurant in a former power station where uber-architect Zaha Hadid will host a party on Thursday evening.
The British Fashion Council’s annual international bash is held tonight at the official LFW hotel, The Mayfair, where a reviver bar will offer wheatgrass shots and oxygen fixes, and an energy boosting cocktail made from vodka, Thai basil leaves, lime and orange topped with organic lemonade. The real bar offers a signature Fashionista cocktail. The seasonal canapés are charged with superfoods and feature smoked venison with lingoberry compote, seared tuna with kiwi chilli chutney, steamed salmon, black bean sauce and shisho cress and handy-to-hold mini toffee apples.
Not to be out done, an entire cocktail menu reflecting the collections of Basso & Brooke, Charles Anastase, Marios Schwab and Louise Goldin has been crafted at St Martins Lane’s Light Bar.
Expect cat-walk watchers to be snacking on Crumbs and Doilies cupcakes and multi-coloured macaroons from the Parisian patisserie Laduree, available from Harrods and the Burlington Arcade. These seasonal collections for the sweet-toothed, look pretty, are cutely packaged in ribbons and sold in a bag with gold plaited handles. Could they be more fashion-friendly?
But beware of the "sweet-tooth police". As a result of a recent health inquiry, the British Fashion Council has recommended that healthy food and drink be available backstage for models. Which is, perhaps, why Topshop Unique had the likes of bread-and-butter pudding with raspberries on its after-show menu.
Nothing could be healthier than a cup of tea from Lyn Harris' fragrant range of brews. Her new tearoom opens at the Miller Harris Bruton Street store on Saturday and will infuse the likes of rose absolute from Turkey and vanilla bourbon from Madagascar. If you can’t wait till then, take a hike to Nicole Farhi’s Bond Street store where Tea at Nicole’s will be served during LFW.
Ten other haunts for the fashion hungry:
TOPSHOP SHOWSPACE CAFE
Last season it was gastro pub grub at the New Gen Arms, this week the Topshop caff at the University of Westminster doffs its cap to the British greasy spoon with bubble and squeak, prawn cocktails, and beer-battered cod and chips on the menu.
