Pub… Given the choice of a pub or a teashop, I’d almost never take the pub. Having said that, I have enjoyed The Engineer (020-7722 0950) in Primrose Hill, North London.

Restaurant… The Wolseley is lovely to be looked at in. Lemonia in Primrose Hill (020- 7586 7454) is my favourite for kleftiko. I had three weeks on Zante recently and couldn’t find anywhere to touch it.

Deli… My father used to take me to Deitch’s in Hull every Sunday – the only time he ever shopped. We’d buy black bread, sweet-and-sour cucumbers, smetana (sour cream) and chopped herring – tastes which would stay with me for ever. Something similar can be found in Harry Morgan’s deli on St John’s Wood High Street.

Drink… I’m a Pimm’s girl. I much prefer it to champagne, which can make me migrainy. It’s a cheerful drink and signals special times for me. My everyday tipple would be sauvignon – from the New World, naturally – or a Campari and soda for my one cigarette of the day.

Treat… Egg and chips or a home-made rice pudding with
a skin on, or tea you can stand a breadknife up in. I also like salmon pie from The Original Maids of Honour (020-8940 2752) in Kew – it has the best pastry in the world.

Junk food… Anchovy and black olive pizza from La Porchetta (020-8883 1500) in Muswell Hill.
