Based on the top floor of a department store, this good-looking franchise is the slightly more affordable brother of the outstanding Leeds restaurant. The chef shops daily at markets and butchers’ stores around the city to create a distinctive, fresh, European cuisine.

Hidden away down a narrow city-centre street, this modest little brightly-decorated restaurant sources prime and unusual local produce for the short a la carte menu. Typical dishes include wild garlic and Parmesan risotto, Castlehills Aberdeen Angus rump steak with sautéed onions (hand-cut chips are extra), and Robson's borage honey crème caramel.

It is not uncommon to see the sandwich board outside this husband and wife run pub read: "Sorry we’re full, but come back, everything is fabulous". The cooking is modern European in style - from ham hock terrine or pea and mint risotto to turbot with porcini-flavoured potatoes - but is based on Whitby seafood, organic local vegetables, and meat from a butcher in Ruswarp, with regional speciality cheeses for good measure. To ensure absolute freshness the menu changes daily. A deserved winner of the 2006 Good Food Guide's Yorkshire newcomer of the year award.
