2007 Lindemans Winemakers Release Shiraz-Cabernet, South Eastern Australia, Somerfield, £3.99 until March 25. Lindemans has started to source wine from other countries to make up its shortfall, but this red is unaffected, delivering fat, chunky, chocolatey, briary spice.

2007 Hatzidakis Santorini Assyrtiko, Greece, Waitrose, £8.99. Last year Waitrose ran out of this unusual, tangy, creamy, barrel-fermented Greek white whose aniseed, apricot and volcanic soil-influenced fruit is a delight. Buy now before the ‘07, too, runs out.

2006 Dr Loosen Beerenauslese Riesling, Mosel, Germany, Waitrose Direct (0800 188881), £9.99. A tiddly quarter-bottle size, but if you have yet to taste a great German estate late-harvest sweet wine, now’s your chance to lap up this luscious, very fine, honey, wax and flower-charged 7 per cent alcohol example.

2006 The Lane Pinot Grigio, Adelaide Hills, Australia, Corney & Barrow (020-7265 2400), £13.95. Adelaide Hills is continuing to enthral and this stylish pinot grigio delivers ripe, elegant, fragrant, spicy, fresh brown bread-scented fruit, a welcome change from bland European bottles.

2001 The Lane 19th Meeting Cabernet Sauvignon, Adelaide Hills, Australia, Corney & Barrow, £19.25. Yup, it took 19 meetings before the Lane hit upon the name for the best single vineyard cabernet it planted in 1993. Its ripe, silky, leafy, briary fruit sets it apart from the sub-£20 herd.
