2007 Finest Sauvignon Blanc, Reserva Especial, Tapiwey Vineyard, Casablanca Valley, Chile, Tesco, down to £3.99 until September 9. Cracking, rock bottom-priced New World sauvignon with all the intense, fat, spicy, lime zest flavours any fan of this stridently verdant grape could ask for.

2007 Adobe Sauvignon Blanc, Casablanca Valley, Emiliana, Chile, Vintage Roots (0800 9804992), down to £5.99 for Times readers. Casablanca is the prime spot for sauvignon blanc and this fresh, grassy, gooseberry-laden 2007, made from organic grapes, comes complete with a fine, lemony finish.

2005 Novas Carmenère-Cabernet Sauvignon, Colchagua Valley, Emiliana, Chile, Vintage Roots, £6.75. Another speciality from organic wine whiz Álvaro Espinoza, also at a special price for Times readers – a carmenère grape-dominated blend bursting with spicy, earthy, tarry fruit.

2007 Cordier Prestige Sémillon-Sauvignon, Bordeaux Blanc, France, Morrisons, down to £7.49 until September 7. Not worth £10, but at £7.49, this citrus and creamy oak-finished, 60 per cent sémillon to 40 per cent sauvignon blanc – the classic dry white bordeaux blend – is a bargain.

2005 Cordier Prestige Merlot-Cabernet Sauvignon, Bordeaux Rouge, Morrisons, down to £7.49 until September 7. 2005 was a great claret year and this delivers some fine, fat, plummy fruit, rounded off with the spicy, burnt flavours of a year’s ageing in new French and American oak.
