Children will be banned from starting school until they receive the MMR jab, under new Labour party proposals.
Parents will have to provide proof their offspring have had a full range of vaccinations when they put in applications for primary schools.
The plan, designed to increase the take-up of the measles, mumps and rubella triple jab, has been drawn up by Mary Creagh, the Labour MP in charge of the party’s health manifesto for the next general election.
“Parents need to protect their children and science gives them a way to do that,” said Creagh. “We need to get that message across.”
However, doctors’ leaders warned that the idea was “morally dubious”.
Dr Hamish Meldrum, chairman of the British Medical Association, said: “A Stalinist approach like this would be likely to backfire.”
Andrew Lansley, the shadow health secretary, accused Labour of “playing politics” with children’s lives.
Take-up of the MMR jab fell dramatically after research – now discredited – appeared to show a link between the triple vaccination and autism.

I'm a loving parent and I have researched extensively the safety and effectiveness of vaccines.I urge every mum and dad to do the same and not to believe the lies and the junk science from the uniformed. Those who uncover the truth will reach only one conclusion.A good start is THE VACCINATION BIBLE
W BRIERS, SHEFFIELD, YORKSHIRE
If you want to know what's really in vaccines, if any safety studies have been conducted, and what the consequences are if you do or don't vaccinate, get a copy of Dr. Sherri Tenpenny's DVD "Vaccines: The Risks, The Benefits, The Choices" from Herballure dotcom. Data right from the medical journals!
Laura, Aurora, United States
I am all for compulsory jabs, especially the MMR. People seem to have this 'it never did me any harm' attitude & forget that measles can be serious & can be fatal!
It's not only about your children either, it's about protecting all those (maybe more vulnerable people) they come into contact with.
C Sinclair, Herts,
Vaccines are dangerous, they are about lining the pockets of the pharma companies and making children very sick. People should research this more!

My last flu jab was at the doctors surgery 4 years ago, and made me so ill with the flu ! -The symptoms lasted several weeks. Never again - since then I have not had flu or even a cold, just take omega 3 and vitamin C - I am 58 and feel great.
Paul Russel, Shepparton - Victoria, Australia
"it never did me any harm"
- Lucky you. The other 1 in 100 aren't here to contradict you.
"i wasn't going to take risks"
- "I accepted a small risk of my children dying to avoid a far smaller possible risk of vaccine side-effects, & didn't mind exposing their friends to a slight increase in risk.

Most vaccines contain some prohibited ingredients like:
Pork/gelatin,alcohol,foetal parts etc..Muslims are not allowed to take!
Also Vaccines contain many harmful chemicals to health like:
Mercury, aluminium etc...They damage the brain and nervous system. No one should force any one to vaccinate ?
Dr A.Majid Katme, London, UK
If vaccinations are so safe why does the Department of Health have a Vaccination Damages Unit. And why has it had to make in the region of 1000 awards to parents of vaccine damaged children? Why does the United States have a specific act - The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act?

Re: the risk/benefit ratio. It doesn't really help objective truth if every time something goes wrong there is an aggressive policy of denial. Just propaganda masquerading as science. Cochrane declared MMR safety studies "largely inadequate". The public are told nothing.
John Stone, London, UK
Re the off topic comments:
MMR does not contain mercury and there is no evidence for any link whatsoever between MMR and autism.
Not vaccinating your children IS taking risks; the risk-benefit equation overwhelmingly favours vaccination.
Dyson, Manchester, UK
same old labour party, we all had such great hopes initially
very sad

Research into MMR and autism has not been scientifically disproved. Children, whom developed an autistic like condition and gut ulceration , following MMR, have been dumped by this government. Their clinicians have been subjected to a witch hunt. Those children are now without treatment or hope.
Richard, Jersey,
When will this busybody interfering Gov knows best nannying bunch of has-beens be booted out of office. It can't be too soon for most people.
Simon Marshland, Bath, UK
In effect many immigrant children, now resident, will have a delayed start to schooling. Just when the government wants integration and a common English language communication the kids will be held out of school. What a morally offensive and idiotic idea.
JANE FLEMING, Whittlesey, United Kingdom
i got whooping cough as a child and it never did me any harm and a had all the other usual childrens' diseases- my children did not have the M MR they are alive and well today- iwasn't going to take risks with them
peter , devizes, wessex
Does it have mercury in it as a preservative?
margie, victoria, australia
An invasive step too far. This government is a spent force and too controlling. Quite frankly enough is enough. They need to go.
C Fowler, Wakefield,
I am not sure "compulsory" vaccination is the way to go in order to overcome the abysmal ignorance some parents have about the clear benefit of these vaccines. Immunisation against these sometimes lethal infections should be a "no-brainer" - but there must be better ways to change peoples' minds.
Dyson, Manchester, UK
Yet another stupid idea from a party which is completely out of touch; Looks like the lessons learned from the local elections have already been forgotten.
Martin, Poole, UK
Yes this idea is extremely morally dubious but so is this government.
judy, Liverpool, England
More New Labour bullying and cronyism: the pharma have a long list of new vaccines they would like to add the schedule. And the Wakefield affair is set to explode in their faces, too.
John Stone, London, UK
An this just proves how much distrust there is for so called government research.
I only hope that they mean that the children must be immunised against mumps, measles and rubella by any means.
When my Fiance and i have kids we will be getting the individual jabs.
Niall, Edinburgh,
