Stretford A mother detected symptoms of cancer in a photograph of a baby girl she had never met.
Madeleine Robb, 32, was chatting online with Megan Santos, 32, from Tampa, Florida, who sent a picture of her one-year-old daughter, Rowan.
The Manchester business analyst, who has no medical training, noticed a white shadow on the child’s eye. When an internet search suggested that it could be a sign of retinoblastoma, she told Mrs Santos. Rowan is being treated for a tumour. Mrs Santos said: “If she hadn’t sent that e-mail, Rowan’s prognosis wouldn’t be as good as it is.”

Madeleine, you should be a doctor, not a business analyst. There are enough CEO's etc.. in this world, your wasting a god-given talent.
Terry Owings, Auckland,
Frank - the whiteness only shows up in photographs; it's the cancer modifying the usual "red eye" photographic effect.
David, Coventry,
Frank clearly doesn't understand the concept of camera flashes or red eye. In a normal eye the light goes in straight, giving the red eye, when there is something blocking it (the same can happen for false eyes) there is a white hue.
Anne, Nottingham,
To Frank:
The tumor is not evident to the "blind eye". It is the flash and exposure of the film that reveals the tumor. The child was not walking (or crawling) around with an obvious illness.
Liz, Bowling Green,Mo, usa
Why wasn't this child already taken in for medical testing by her mother? I mean the whiteness in her left eye is quite obvious! If the mother hadn't already taken her in, she should be charged with child neglect!
frank, los angeles, usa
Wasn't there another case in the news where a baby or small child had a similar problem that was found out in a photo too? I am pretty sure there was.
Ubay, London,
it restored my faith in the Good that we all have.
Abdul Jaleel (Dr. ), Darlington , United Kingdom
God bless Madeleine Robb. She could have shrugged it off. But she didn't...and now the baby has a chance at a healthy life.
