Ovarian cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women in the UK, after breast, bowel and lung. Each year, there are around 6,600 new cases. Only one in ten of those women will survive.

The question is: what can we do to improve survival rates?

Many charities and survivors believe greater awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer among GPs and the public would result in earlier diagnosis, but experts disagree, saying awareness could lead to panic, false-positives and unnecessary surgery.

Here, two experts weigh up the pros and cons of raising symptom awareness.
