Yesterday Milan, today Paris. There's no rest for the wicked - especially if you like to follow the menswear beat. Milanese glitz and glamour has been replaced by quiet sophistication in France's fashion capital, with Savile Row tailor Kilgour's first catwalk outing. Shapes were suitably streamline, colours naturally muted, as Creative Director Carlo Brandelli injected a bit of darkness to the light Parisian mood. There was the piping that dominated the Milan catwalks - think go faster stripes on trousers - with not a tie in sight. If there is one message that has scintillated through the tailoring theme this week, it's that summer ties are O.U.T. This season is all about the scarf.

Here Kilgour's main man, Creative Director Carlo Brandelli, gives us a snapshot of his stylish life.

What do you consider attractive in a woman?

Subtlety, elegance, grace and poise.

What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?

A kilgour dark navy slim pair of jeans with an unstructured super dark navy jacket.

What is your one piece of fashion or beauty advice?

Buy the best quality you can afford and don't worry about what you can’t.

Biggest fashion faux pas...

It isn't one I make but misuse of bright garish colours.

What aspect of fashion do you hate the most?

Unnecessary consumption and extravagance.

These days, do you think there is as much pressure on men as on women to look good?

No, I think men should always think about it. Some just don’t.

Men’s grooming products, do you use them? Would you tell your friends?

I do use certain things such as mint soap from Santa Maria Novella, and the basic nivea white cream in a blue tub has been a constant aftershave balm for as long as I remember.

How do you think people perceive you from the way you dress?

Unfortunately, being a designer I am judged on how I look. That’s ok - I can change perceptions very quickly.

What are your five desert island staples?

Water, Lola and Max (my children), a football and William Curley milk chocolate truffles.

What is a fashion Day in the Life of Carlo Brandelli?

Recently it has been about the Paris catwalk show – i’ve been in the studio finalising the show music, casting models in Paris and London, working on artwork for the images, finalising designs for the collection and talking to the art director. It’s been busy.
