Are you a cat or a dog person? I have two cats and only one dog in my studio and they are all stuffed. So I think that makes me more of a cat person.
Do you have religious faith? I pray at the altar of the Farrow & Ball colour chart.
With whom did you last get drunk and what was the occasion? At breakfast with the team in my studio. A client sent us a bottle of champagne to say thank you and I thought it was bad luck not to open it straightaway.
What is your most diva-like demand? Details. I go mad if something is out of line.
What is your grooming ritual? A good bottle of rosé twice a day.
What is your signature look? Unironed, sozzled, classic gent.
How do you spend your downtime? I rarely get weekends to myself as work is all-consuming, so when I do, I reserve them for telly. Summer Heights High is fabulous.
What is your catch phrase? Everything has to be “honest”. I hate unauthentic details. Better to have something that is good and solid and real.
What causes you sleepless nights? Picture-frame lights, beige bathroom tiles and the Farrow & Ball colour chart.
What is the one thing you want to improve about your appearance? My dress sense. Since moving away from fashion, I find I rarely have the time to get dressed up.
What is your best trait? The pursuit of impeccable taste in interiors. I spent the whole of yesterday worrying about drawer linings in a dressing table for the suites we are doing at the Goring hotel. It’s these funny little obsessions that lead to true quality.
What is your worst trait? Demanding impeccable taste.
How often do you go out? I never go home. Are you a member of any clubs? Nope, but I would love to join Paramount, opening in Centre Point, right by my studio.
What was your big break? Gordon Ramsay has been amazing for us. The team are so positive and encouraging. I think they like to give the new kids on the block a chance.
What item do you wish you had designed? The MacBook Air – it’s changed my life.
What is your answerphone message? I refuse to have anything where I have to pick up messages, they drive me crazy. I’m a “text me” kind of chap.
Are you an early adopter or a Luddite? Total Luddite – everything must be done by hand, in minuscule detail. I have owned a BlackBerry for three years and have never received an e-mail on it.
What is your green concession? Peas.
What is your ungreen concession? Ready meals from Marks & Spencer.
What is in your fridge? Eggs and booze.
What do you save if your house is on fire? Myself.
What would be your last meal on earth? A Pot Noodle.
What makes good design? I love surprises. Twists and shocks.
What is your favouritee building and why? Stapleford Park. We redesigned the interiors of this amazing hotel this year. It is the loveliest building I have ever seen.
If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing that you would buy? An ironing board and a face-lift – to remove all of life’s wrinkles.
Do you prefer flats or heels? Are you kidding? Flip-flops! What five words would your friends use to describe you? Honest, practical, funny, obsessional, dashing. What is the one piece of advice you would like to give to others? Work every minute and enjoy the breaks.
What would your epitaph be? Take care.
