I have heard that good quality tin (aluminium) foil - not the cheap value stuff but the thicker more expensive stuff - works in the same way as the copper wire.
I haven't tried it yet, i am planning to this year. Hopefully i can protect and therefore getsome salad to harvest and eat myself

Try putting copper wire on the ground around your vegetable patch (leave no gaps!!). This keeps the slugs out normally as it gives them a nasty electrical shock when they touch it as their gliding fluid creates tension between their body and copper (plus it contains no poison and needs no energy).

The list is all very well - everything I have planted this summer has been devastated by slugs and snails. The question remains - how can I end up with any veg to use in the kitchen?
