Touch! Generations is a unique range of software which can be enjoyed by anyone. Whether you’re a hardened gamer or you’ve never picked up a console in your life, the simple controls and engaging content will have you testing your mettle in no time.
From helping to train your brain and improve your mentality agility, through to increasing your creativity and your ability to learn, remember and have fun, you’ll feel good with Touch! Generations’ range of games and puzzles for the Nintendo DS.
Since the puzzles fall into bite-sized portions, you can easily fit a spot of brain training into even the busiest of routines. Reclaim the lost time you spend waiting for a bus or sitting on a train, or pick it up during TV advert breaks – but be prepared to miss the rest of the programme as you get caught up in the challenge.
The pocket-sized console is small and light enough to carry around, so you can be productive whenever you have a quiet moment, wherever you happen to be.
Unlike most games consoles, the Nintendo DS responds to voice and touch – a more natural way of interacting with the games, which has more appeal for people not normally attracted to gadgets and gizmos.
With many of the puzzles, answers can be written directly onto the touch-sensitive screen, dispensing with the need for a cumbersome controller. For example, responding to Brain Training maths questions simply requires writing your answer directly on to the touch screen, while games such as Nintendogs let you stroke your virtual pets and watch them respond to your touch. Voice-sensitive games encourage you to talk and sing to the DS.
The Touch! Generations range offers a variety of titles, such as Nintendogs which sits alongside the more productive but equally entertaining range of training titles, testing your mental agility with a selection of puzzles, quizzes and brain teasers.
Another title in the Touch! Generations range, Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, consists of quick-fire challenges designed to provide a complete mental workout, focusing on memory, reading, logic, and arithmetic. This unique blend of verbal and numerical interactive puzzles is designed to stimulate different areas of the brain and encourage users to develop a more active mind. As you train yourself to respond faster and more accurately, you will see your ‘brain age’ reduce towards the optimum age of 20.
The science behind the games, which have been developed by the Japanese professor Dr Kawashima, never gets in the way of the enjoyable experience of playing them, trying to beat your personal best and watching your scores get better as the training takes effect.
Applying similar principles to your eyes, Sight Training sets you a range of brief, fun challenges that test your visual skills. Although the games will not correct visual disorders, they will help you to improve your hand-eye co-ordination and eye movement. After a thorough three-minute workout, the game switches to a relaxation mode designed to sooth your eyes.
With its combination of entertainment and self-improvement, the Nintendo DS has redefined the scope of the computer game and broadened its appeal to people of all ages. Two thirds of the users are outside the under-25 age group that makes up the majority of the core gaming market, and more than 10 million people are now training their brains with Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training on the Nintendo DS. They may be more mature physically, but Nintendo’s army of brain trainers are doing their best to keep their minds young and agile.
